Trojans defeat Arizona, 6-1

Los Angeles, Calif. -- The 11th-ranked USC men's tennis team defeated Arizona, 6-1, today (Jan. 29) at Marks Tennis Stadium. With the win, the Trojans improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-10.
USC nearly swept the singles matches, earning only one loss. 30th-ranked Patrick Gottesleben defeated 86th-ranked Alex Aybar, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 1 position. Sophomore Andrew Park rebounded from a recent loss, to earn a 6-4, 6-2 win over Wildcat Michel Stopa at No. 2. Daniel Langre and Nicholas Rainey posted their fourth-straight victories at the No. 4 and 5 spots this season, by defeating Caleb Marquardt, 6-2, 6-2, and Tom Lloyd, 7-6, 4-1. Lloyd's match was retired after he withdrew with a muscle strain. USC's only loss was at the No. 6 position as Parker Collins fell to Arizona's Alex Brown, 7-5, 7-5.
USC posted wins in two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point in the Pac-10 contest. Undefeated Rainey and Moore teamed for a 8-1 victory over Aybar and Jean-Noel LaCosta, and the USC duo of Park and Collins defeated Arizona's Stopa and Marquardt, 8-4.
The Trojans will return to their home court on Tuesday, Feb. 1, against 17th-ranked Fresno State. The match will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Marks Tennis Stadium.
