BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 7 California men's swim team (5-0, 3-0 in Pac-10) defeated No. 8 USC (3-2, 1-2), 168.5 to 128.5, in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
USC was led by Tamas Kerekjarto who won two individual events in the 200 Fly (1:47.13) and 200 IM (1:47.87). Kerekjarto's time in the 200 IM was just off of his nation's best 1:47.68 he swam a day earlier at Stanford. Also for USC, Erik Vendt, an olympian for the US in Sydney, won the mile (15:01.41), Klete Keller another olympian and Jeff Lee also won an event apiece in the 500 Freestyle (4:28.57) and the 100 Butterfly (48.87).
The Bears won 10 of the meet's 16 events with five different swimmers winning individual events. Cal was paced by sophomore Anthony Ervin, who won both the 50 (19.82) and the 100 free (43.56), and swam the anchor leg on both the Bears winning relays.
