Trojans Take Care Of Stanford, 4-3

LOS ANGELES - The fourth-ranked USC men's tennis team extended its win streak to seven straight by defeating ninth-ranked Stanford, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at Marks Tennis Stadium. With the win, the Trojans improved to 15-2 overall, while the Cardinal dropped to 11-4. The match does not count against conference records.
"Anytime you beat Stanford, you're having a great day," said USC head coach Peter Smith. "I love wins like this, especially for the upperclassmen. But it's not over yet because we have to face them again in two weeks."
Doubles proved to be the key to the match as the Trojans began the afternoon by winning at all three positions. USC won by 8-6 and 8-5 scores at the No. 1 and 3 spots, but it was Parker Collins' and Johan Berg's 9-7 victory over James Pade and James Wan at court two that completed the sweep.
USC and Stanford split the six singles matches, but the Trojans secured the victory when senior Daniel Langre came back after dropping the first set to beat Carter Morris, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, at court five. Troy's Adriano Biasella got things going by defeating 23rd-ranked Sam Warburg, 6-1,6-4, at center court. Stanford picked up its first point of the afternoon when KC Corkery beat Berg, 0-6, 6-3, 6-1, at court two, but freshman Jamil Al-Agba responded with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Phil Sheng at No. 3, putting USC a point away from the match victory.
The Trojans resume play on Saturday, April 3, when they host California in a 1 p.m. nonconference match at Mark's Tennis Stadium.
