
USC Defeats Notre Dame

USC senior Vanni Mangoni won three races to lead the USC men's swimming team to a 158-104 win over host Notre Dame on Friday (Nov. 19). USC improved to 1-0 while Notre Dame fell to 0-1.
Mangoni won the 100y (51.33) and 200y back (1:50.31) as well as the 400y IM (3:59.39). In the latter event, sophomore teammate James Martin was second (4:06.35).
Transfer Kevin Bartell led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100y breast, winning in 57.36. Freshman Dillon Connolly was second (57.41) while junior Kazu Miyahara was third (57.44). Later in the 200y breast, Miyahara won the race (2:05.61), just ahead of Connolly (2:05.71).
USC also swept the top three spots in the 50y free, senior Richard Gosper taking the event in a strong 20.36. Freshmen Jake Grosser (20.79) and Buddy Turner (21.03) finished behind Gosper. Turner earlier won the 200y free (1:39.31). After the 50 free, Gosper (45.47), Grosser (46.16) and Turner (47.32) went 2-3-4 in the 100y free.
Junior Brandon Lovell was second in both the 100y (50.36) and 200y fly (1:52.21).
