Five Trojans Advance In Regional Singles Play

IRVINE, CALIF. -- The USC men's tennis team pushed a powerful group through to tomorrow's Round of 32 with a strong first day of singles play at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, held in Irvine, Calif. Five Trojans served up straight-set wins in the Round of 64 after first-round byes, with a busy day on tap for tomorrow as doubles play begins and singles action continues.
Top-seeded Daniel Nguyen will be joined by Trojan teammates JT Sundling, Peter Lucassen, Ray Sarmiento and Jaak Poldma for the Round of 32 after the group of Trojans all snagged singles wins today. Freshman Michael Grant played in the opening round of 128, and fell in a tough three-setter.
The five Trojans lined up for the singles Round of 32 will also combined forces for doubles play tomorrow Steve Johnson in the mix to team up with Sarmiento to round out the doubles crew.
