TULSA, OKLA. -- USC's Steve Johnson snagged a pair of singles wins today in consolation play at the ITA/D'Novo All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The Trojan teamed up with Daniel Nguyen for Round of 16 doubles as well, but the pair stumbled in their main draw match, while Johnson was able to dominate his singles matches today. Johnson will move to the consolation quarterfinals tomorrow morning in Tulsa.
Johnson and Nguyen got embroiled in a tight match against Oklahoma's Beleleu/Paval in the doubles main draw Round of 16, taking a tough 9-7 loss to the two Sooners to wrap up their doubles run in Tulsa. Johnson was able to regroup from yesterday's main draw singles loss, however, and picked off two opponents in singles consolation play today. The USC junior won two matches in straight sets to advance to a consolation quarterfinal tomorrow against Florida State's Vahid Mirzadeh.
Full USC results are below, and complete brackets and results are available at the ITA/D'Novo All-American Championships web page.
