Trojans Impress At Head Of The American

LAKE NATOMA, Calif.- The USC women's rowing team opened the 2011-12 season this weekend with a bang as the Varsity Eight `A' boat finished first and the Varsity Four `A' and `B' boats finished first and second at the Head of the American in Lake Natoma, Calif., on Saturday (Oct.30).
USC's Varsity Eight `A' boat finished first in 16:13.24, easily ahead of second place Washington which finished in 16:37.05 followed by Stanford's `A' boat, Cal's `B' boat and Stanford's `B' boat to round out the top-five. USC's `B' and `C' boats finished sixth and eighth in the field of 17.
The Trojans' Varsity Four `A' boat finished first in 17:43.9 and the Varsity Four `B' boat finished second in 18:05.66 out of 23 boats in the field to cap an impressive day on the water for USC.
The Novice Eight boat, built from campus walk-on's who started rowing just a few weeks ago finished third out of 17 boats in the Collegiate Novice event.
"We are very pleased with the promising results this weekend" said head coach Zenon Babraj. "Our team has a good mixture of experience and youth and the quality and depth of our squad is very encouraging."
USC returns to action March 13, 2012 at the San Diego Crew Classic in Mission Bay Calif., where the Varsity Eight and Varsity Four will look to defend their 2011 championships.
