SEATTLE, WASH. - The No. 2 USC men's tennis team bounced back at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships with a resounding win over No. 12 Louisville. The Trojans tacked up a 4-0 victory over the Cardinals on day three of action in Seattle. USC is now 8-2 overall.
The Trojans set themselves up with the doubles point to kick things off in their morning match. The Cardinals put up a bit of a fight, claiming the first win from court one, but USC rallied back to take its 1-0 lead on wins from Poldma/Sundling at No. 2 and Johnson/Grant at No. 3 to bring up singles play.
Jaak Poldma padded USC's lead to 2-0 with his 6-3, 6-3 win over Simon Childs on court three, and Emilio Gomez added to the advantage with his 6-2, 6-4 win over Alejandro Calligari at the No. 4 slot. USC was up solidly on the remaining courts, but it was #4 Steve Johnson who came through first with the clincher as he dealt out a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Louisville's #11 Austen Childs to lock down victory for the Trojans.
USC now returns home for two matches - including a rematch with Stanford after taking a 4-3 loss to the Cardinal yesterday in Seattle. The Trojans will first host California in a 1:30 p.m. match on Friday (Feb. 25) before going up against Stanford at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 26) at Marks Stadium.
