Three-time beach volleyball national champion and recent USC graduate Sara Hughes was awarded a Pac-12 Postgraduate Scholarship, the conference announced today.
Each year, one or two student-athletes from each school in the Pac-12 is awarded a $9,000 scholarship to pursue postgraduate education. Hughes, who graduated in May as a David X. Marks Scholar-Athlete (3.0 cumulative GPA) with a degree in business administration, will become a double Trojan, pursuing an entrepreneurship degree at USC.
In the meantime, the 2017 USC student-athlete commencement speaker is competing at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Vienna, Austria, alongside her college partner, Kelly Claes. The duo has its sights set on the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
Past Trojan recipients of the Pac-12 Postgraduate Scholarship are Whitney Pitalo (women's soccer), Diego Lopez (men's track & field), Eric Johnson (men's tennis), Cristian Rivera (men's volleyball), Haley Ishimatsu (women's diving), Kevin Swich (baseball) and more.
