Brandon Holt Takes NCAA Quarterfinal Loss To Draw’s Top Seed

Trojan junior put up a fight, but fell 7-5, 6-3 to top-seeded Borges of Mississippi State.
ORLANDO, FLA. — USC junior Brandon Holt saw his stellar NCAA Singles run come to a close at the hands of the draw's top seed today at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. Holt's NCAA Quarterfinal run was the deepest by a Trojan since Steve Johnson won his second straight title back in 2012. For No. 5 seed Holt, the achievement bettered last year's Round of 16 push, and closes down his junior season with the 2019 Pac-12 Player of the Year holding a 22-6 overall singles record.
Holt had made a comeback rally in yesterday's Round of 16 to earn his place in today's Quarterfinals against top-seeded at top-ranked Nuno Borges of Mississippi State. Borges had surrendered only a single game in his Round of 16 victory, but No. 5 seeded Holt was able to put the top seed to the test. In the end, Borges made the winning push, posting a 7-5, 6-3 win over Holt to advance to the semifinals.
The loss snapped a career-best 13-match singles win streak held by Holt, who now boasts an 82-26 career singles record.
