Brandon Holt Secures ITA All-American Status Again
May 30, 2019 | Men's Tennis, Features
Junior has picked up ITA All-America singles honors for three straight seasons.
Junior Brandon Holt officially caps off his third season as a Trojan in the same way he has every year — as an ITA All-American. Seeded No. 5 for the 2019 NCAA Singles Championships, Holt had his third set of All-America singles honors already in hand on his way into the event. But in cruising his way to the Quarterfinals, the junior doubled down on the award. The finishing touch came with Holt's final No. 9 singles rank for his first top-10 final singles ranking of his career.
Holt's quarterfinal journey was the deepest run by a Trojan in the NCAA Singles draw since Steve Johnson won his second straight title in 2012. The Trojan junior would wrap his 2018-19 season with a 22-6 overall singles record, having gone 16-3 in dual-match singles play. The 2019 Pac-12 Player of the Year helped his team claim the Pac-12 Tournament title to reach the NCAA Team Tournament for the 13th straight season. Holt's 2019 ITA All-America status in singles goes along with 2017 and 2018 All-America honors in singles as well as 2018 All-America doubles accolades. On his way to this year's NCAA Quarterfinal run, Holt built up a 13-match win streak before falling to the NCAA's top seed. Holt now boasts an 82-27 career singles record as a Trojan. Â
The criteria for ITA All-America honors include earning a top 16 seed into the NCAA Singles Championship, advancing to the round of 16 at the NCAA Championship or finishing in the top 20 of the final Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings. All-America recognition is awarded to doubles teams that earn a top eight seed into the NCAA Championship, reach the NCAA Championship quarterfinals or finish in the top 10 in the final Oracle/ITA National Doubles Rankings.
