No. 1 USC Men Fight Back To Beat No. 11 TCU At ITA Indoors

Trojans drop the doubles point, but rally back with four singles wins in Madison, Wisc.
MADISON, WISC. — The No. 1 USC men's tennis team shrugged off a couple setbacks and dug out the wins it needed in singles to post a 4-2 victory over No. 11 TCU in the Round of 16 at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship today in Madison, Wisc. The Trojans trailed 1-0 out of the gates and then 2-1 during singles before Riley Smith snarled the score up at 2-2 to set up for three-set victories from Mor Bulis and Daniel Cukierman — another clincher for the junior top-ranked player in the nation — and secure a trip to tomorrow's quarterfinals. USC will face Stanford for the second time this season tomorrow (Feb. 15) at 10 a.m. PT.
The Horned Frogs snagged the doubles point with wins on courts two and three while USC was only able to register a 6-4 win from #58 Daniel Cukierman and Riley Smith on court one. That had USC in a hole entering singles, but the Trojans soon snarled things back up with freshman #65 Stefan Dostanic's straight-set win over Bertus Kruger on court five. USC lost some ground again when Sander Jong was able to top USC's #69 freshman Ryder Jackson on court six, but USC was undeterred by the 2-1 deficit. Senior #33 Riley Smith was resolute in his push to a 6-3, 7-6 (4) equalizer over #122 Tadeas Paroulek on court three, and the Trojans were looking strong as third sets unfurled on courts two and four. Sophomore #15 Mor Bulis edged his Trojans ahead 3-2 on a three-set comeback over #74 Jacob Fearnley at the No. 4 spot, leaving Trojans on the top two courts in a race to clinch. On court two, it was the clinching machine #1 Daniel Cukierman who collected his fourth match-clinching victory with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 win over #125 Luc Fornba to put a stop to action on court one with #24 Brandon Holt just inches from victory.
