No. 6 USC Splits Duals with Southern California Rivals

The Women of Troy claimed a 4-1 win over the 10th-ranked Waves but fell in another close 3-2 decision to No. 2 UCLA
LOS ANGELES – The No. 6 USC beach volleyball team (6-5) defeated No. 10 Pepperdine (2-4) by a 4-1 count but fell to No. 2 UCLA, 3-2, at Merle Norman Stadium on Wednesday, March 11.
The Trojans improved to 15-13 all-time over the Waves when junior Haley Hallgren and grad Hailey Harward delivered a 21-13, 17-21, 15-12 win over Brook Bauer and Deahna Kraft at the top court. The fourth point went up when freshman Kyla Doig and junior Sammy Slater posted a 19-21, 22-20, 15-12 win over Carly Skjodt and Sutton Mactavish at the No. 2 position.
On the day, USC freshman twin tandem Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse went 2-0 with a straight-set win over the Waves and a three-set win over the Bruins at court three. Against UCLA, the Trojans claimed wins at the Nos. three and four positions to start the dual, but the Bruins knotted the score with straight-set wins at the top two courts. In a hard-fought third set, senior Cammie Dorn and junior Paige Dreeuws fell to Mac May and Megan Muret, 17-21, 21-14, 15-11, at court five to clinch the dual.
The Trojans head to DeLand, Fla., for the Stetson Beach Blast this weekend (March 14-15) and then will play a dual against Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla., on Tuesday, March 17.
