No. 9 USC Men’s Tennis Downs Sun Devils 6-1 To Open Pac-12 Play

TEMPE – No. 9 USC men's tennis opened Pac-12 play with a win over Arizona State on Friday, March 31, cruising to a 6-1 victory at the Whiteman Center.
USC started the evening off strong, securing the doubles point for the first time in three matches with wins on courts two and three. Ryan Colby and Stefan Dostanic struck first as the duo would win 6-2 on court three. Shortly thereafter, USC's Makk/Frye fell on center court 6-1. The doubles point was won on court two as Wojtek Marek and Samuel Rubell teamed up to defeat Roi Ginat and Murphy Cassone 7-5.
The Trojans carried their momentum straight into singles play, winning five consecutive matches. No. 26 Peter Makk came out swinging, defeating Jacob Bullard 6-1, 6-0 on court two to increase Troy's lead to 2-0. Over on court five, No. 124 Bradley Frye continued the Trojans hot streak, defeating Spencer Brachman 6-2, 6-3 to score USC's third point in the dual. Ryan Colby clinched the match for the Trojans with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 decision on court four over ASU's Constantinos Koshis.
Remaining matches were played out with USC snagging another two points. Wojtek Marek beat his Sun Devil opponent Max McKennon 7-6(6), 6-4 on court three moments before #32 Stefan Dostanic defeated Murphy Cassone 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(3) on center court. ASU picked up their only point of the day on court six as Roi Ginat beat Trojan Samuel Rubell 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (9).
With the win over ASU, USC improves to 11-5 overall and 1-0 in Pac-12 play. Now, the Trojans are turning their focus to Sunday's 1 p.m. dual against No. 18 Arizona at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
