February 18, 2024 | Men's Tennis
The Trojans are now 4-1 when they win the doubles point this season
NEW YORK CITY -Â No. 5 (12-seeded) USC men's tennis drops the final matchup of their ITA National Team Indoor Championship journey as they lost to No. 21 (16-seeded) Alabama 4-1 in the third day Consolation rounds, on Sunday, Feb. 18 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.
Â
The Trojans had limited highlights in the matchup, but they seemed to come early, as USC won the doubles point to score the first point of the dual. The No. 1 doubles team of Peter Makk and Lodewijk Weststrate came through first for USC, as they won 6-3. The Trojans needed the No. 3 team of Volodymyr Iakubenko and Samuell Rubell to come through, and they did as they erased a 5-3 deficit to eventually win in a tiebreak 7-6(5).
Â
The singles were less successful, as the Trojans couldn't get on the board before the dual concluded.Â
