Hannes Daube and Marko Vavic help Team USA to first men’s water polo medal since 2008 with bronze in Paris.
PARIS, FRANCE — USC stretched its 2024 Olympics total medal count to 15 with two bronze claimed by Trojans on the final day of competition in Paris. Capped up for Team USA in the men's water polo bronze-medal game today, Trojans Hannes Daube and Marko Vavic helped the United States men win their first medal since 2008 in beating Hungary. Daube scored once in regulation and then buried his penalty shot during the deciding shootout to push Team USA ahead of the Hungarians and on to the podium in Paris.
Their medal-winning effort gives USC six bronze at these Games, going along with seven gold and two silver won by Trojans in Paris. USC has won at least seven gold medals in every summer Olympics since Atlanta in 1996, and also has won 10 or more total medals in every Games in that same span. USC's total medal count since 1904 now stands at 341 (160 silver, 100 silver, 81 bronze), and Trojans have won at least one gold medal in every summer Olympics since 1912. USC continues to lead all U.S. universities in total Olympic medals won and in the number of total Olympians, now with 546 from 1904-2024.

Men's Water Polo
Bronze Medal Game: USA 11, Hungary 8 (shootout)
• Competing in his second Olympic Games, 2018 NCAA champion Hannes Daube scored one goal and had two field blocks in regulation, then scored his penalty shot during the deciding shootout to help Team USA win BRONZE with its win over Hungary. It's the USA men's first Olympic medal since 2008.
• Competing in his second Olympic Games, 2018 NCAA champion Marko Vavic had a block and provided key defense for Team USA in its win over Hungary to win a BRONZE medal in Paris.
Fifth Place Game: Greece 15, Spain 13
• Playing in his third Olympic Games, three-time NCAA champion Kostas Genidounias scored three goals and had a rebound for Greece in its win over Spain to finish fifth in Paris.
Seventh Place Game: Italy 10, Australia 6
• Two-time Olympian Blake Edwards had a steal for Australia in its loss to Italy in the seventh-place game today.
• Two-time Olympian Lachlan Edwards recorded a steal for Australia today.
• A 2018 NCAA champion at USC and first-time Olympian, Jacob Mercep scored one goal and added a steal and a rebound for the Aussies today.
• A 2018 NCAA champion at USC and first-time Olympian, goalie Nic Porter had four saves along with two steals and a rebounds for Australia today.
