Senior Peter Makk upset No. 7 Gavin Young in the first round of the singles main draw at the ITA All-American Championship
TULSA, Okla. - USC's Peter Makk ended his time at the ITA All-American Championship after falling in the singles main draw consolation bracket on Friday, Sept. 17.
The Trojans sent two individuals to the ITA All-American Championship this season - senior Karl Lee and senior Makk - and came away with a pair of wins throughout the qualifying and main draw. Lee earned a spot in the tournament on the qualifying side, where he secured a first-round victory over Miami's No. 58 Antonio Prat, before falling in the second round to Baylor's Marko Miladinovic.
Makk earned his spot automatically in the main draw thanks to his preseason No. 38 ranking from the ITA. The senior upset No. 7 Gavin Young (Michigan) in the first round of the singles main draw with a come-from-behind 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory. Makk fell in the next round to Miami's No. 43 Martin Katz 6-4, 6-3.
Makk would have one more shot in the consolation round as he faced Denver's No. 94 Daniel Sancho Arbizu. Makk took the first set, but Sancho Arbizu would take the rest as Makk went down 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to end his time at the tournament.
