USC’s Niels Hoffmann Finishes Runner-Up at SoCal Intercollegiate Championships

LOS ANGELES – USC men's tennis sophomore Niels Hoffman capped off a successful weekend at the SoCal Intercollegiate Championships, finishing runner-up in the singles competition in San Diego.
Hoffmann won four-straight matches to advance through the tournament and reach the singles final. The sophomore won back-to-back three-set matches over the weekend to earn a spot in the final. Facing San Diego's Stian Klaasen in the final, Hoffmann ultimately fell 6-2, 6-2 to claim the second-place spot.
Fellow sophomore Matteo Morazzi also had a strong performance at the SoCal Championships, reaching the semifinal after three-straight victories. Morazzi fell in the semifinal to Klaasen, who'd go on to claim the singles title.
Grad transfer Jack McCarthy claimed his first match and advanced to the singles round of 16.
In doubles, USC went 1-1, with Morazzi and Jack McCarthy teaming up for the first time this season.
