Trojans jump eight spots following strong winter championship performances
LOS ANGELES – USC climbed eight spots to No. 5 in the latest Learfield Directors' Cup standings released Thursday morning, following the completion of the winter championship season.
Bolstered by the 2025 Men's Indoor Track & Field national championship, USC tallied 384.00 points from winter sports competitions to jump into the top five of the standings.
The Trojans also scored points with a third-place finish in women's indoor track and field and a top-five final ranking for women's basketball, who won the 2025 Big Ten regular season championship and advanced to the Elite Eight for the second straight season. Standout performances in men's and women's swimming and diving, who each finished the season in the top 15 nationally, also boosted USC's standings in the Cup race.
The Directors' Cup, presented by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, ranks institutions based on their performance across NCAA Championships in up to 19 sports.
USC is joined in the top five by North Carolina, Stanford, Wisconsin, and Ohio State. Rounding out the top 10 behind USC are Texas, BYU, Penn State, Duke, and Tennessee.
Currently, 10 Trojan programs rank in the top 25 nationally in spring competitions, including seven top-10 teams, five top-5 teams, and two teams – women's track and field and women's water polo – ranking No. 1 in the nation.
In the 2024-25 academic year, seven programs have completed their seasons ranked in the top-25 nationally, led by men's indoor track and field, men's water polo (national runners-up), women's indoor track and field, women's basketball, and women's soccer, who claimed USC's first Big Ten title in the fall.
