Trojans finish runners up in highest cup race in history
LOS ANGELES β USC Athletics posted its best-ever finish in the Learfield Directors' Cup in 2024-25, finishing No. 2 nationally in the closest cup race in the award's history.Β
The Trojans amassed a Big Ten-best 1,253.75 points across the 2024-25 academic year, led by a pair of national championships from USC's men's indoor and outdoor track teams. The second-place finish tops USC's previous high finish of No. 3 in 2014-15 and marks the Trojans' first top-five finish since 2019.Β
"Our student-athletes accomplished so much this year, in the classroom and in competition, and this record-high finish in the Learfield Directors' Cup reflects their hard work, the support of our donors and the entire Trojan Family, andΒ USC's commitment to broad-based excellence across the entire University," said Charles Griffin Cale Director of Athletics Jen Cohen. "We are so proud of the student-athletes, coaches, and staff who made our historic success this year possible, and we are excited to continue working to ensure USC is THE PLACE TO BE for student-athletes to reach their full potential in all they do."
The Directors' Cup, presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), ranks institutions based on their performance across NCAA Championships in up to 19 sports, with points awarded based on each team's national postseason finish.
USC enjoyed historic success across all 23 programs in its first year in the Big Ten, with two national championships and four conference titles. Eight programs finished in the top five of their respective final rankings, 11 in the top 10, and 16 in the top 25.Β
The Trojans' success in competition is matched by historic heights academically. USC student-athletes set numerous academic records this academic year, establishing new top marks for cumulative GPA (3.240), student-athletes with a 3.0 or better GPA (440), and student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA (61).
USC is joined in the top five of the Learfield Cup standings by Texas, Stanford, Florida, and North Carolina.
