USC Defensive Tackle Jide Abasiri Named Quarterfinalist for Lott IMPACT Trophy
October 15, 2026 | Football
LOS ANGELES—USC defensive tackle Jide Abasiri has been named as a Quarterfinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy.
Named after former NFL Hall of Famer and USC legend Ronnie Lott, the Lott Trophy annually goes to the Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year; a player who has had the biggest impact on his team both on and off the field. IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity, all characteristics exhibited by Lott during his illustrious playing career.
Abasiri, a junior, has emerged as a leader of the Trojan defense, earning team captain honors and representing USC at Big Ten Media Days. His leadership is matched by his versatility up front. Abasiri can play multiple spots along the defensive line, and his ability to disrupt the pocket and draw extra attention creates opportunities for his teammates.
So far in 2026, he has tallied 16 tackles, including 3.5 for loss of 14 yards (with 1 sack for minus 10 yards) and 2 quarterback hurries.
Throughout his Trojan career, Abasiri has decorated his stat sheet with 49 tackles, including 7.5 for loss of 38 yards (with 4.5 sacks for minus 34 yards), 4 quarterback hurries and 1 force fumble.
In 2025, he was named to Bruce Feldman's Freaks List for his intriguing athleticism, having clocked 19.22 mph at nearly 300 pounds. More impressively, Abasiri's 10-yard split was 1.60, and he's squatted 700 pounds.
Semifinalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy will be announced in mid-November. A national voter poll will select the winner, which will be presented in Newport Beach, California on December 9, at The Pacific Club.
