USC Defensive End Luke Wafle Earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honors
October 05, 2026 | Football
LOS ANGELES—USC defensive end Luke Wafle has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his performance in USC's 25-21 victory over Washington on Saturday (Oct. 3). This is the first Big Ten weekly honor for Wafle in his Trojan career.
Wafle delivered one of the best performances of his young career, recording 5 tackles, including 4 solo stops, a career-high 2.0 tackles for loss and 1 sack, his first as a Trojan.Â
Wafle led the Trojans in tackles for loss and produced 3 tackles on Washington's final possession, including a sack and another stop behind the line of scrimmage.
With USC protecting a 25-21 lead, Wafle sacked Williams for a 2-yard loss during the Huskies' final drive. After Washington later crossed midfield, he stopped Williams for a 1-yard loss at the USC 30 before making another tackle on the following play.
Wafle's late-game disruption helped USC keep Washington out of the end zone.Â
Wafle leads USC with 4.5 tackles for loss on the season, while his 22 tackles are the most among Trojan defensive linemen and third-most on the team.
No. 19 USC travels to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions this weekend. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. PT (7:30 p.m. ET) on Saturday, Oct. 10. The game will air live on NBC.Â
