No. 21 USC Men's Tennis Powers Past No. 24 Pepperdine 4-2

LOS ANGELES — The No. 21-ranked USC Trojans delivered a strong performance Friday afternoon at Marks Tennis Stadium, knocking off No. 24 Pepperdine 4-2.Â
With the win, USC improves to 7-3 overall and picks up its third top-25 win of the season.Â
USC struck first by claiming the doubles point. The Trojans opened the afternoon with a decisive 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position, where Andrin Casanova and Jack McCarthy handled Pepperdine's Lasse Poertner and Aleksa Pisaric. The point was clinched at No. 3, as Max Exsted and Nathan Trouve battled to a 7-6 (3) win to secure the early 1-0 lead. The match at No. 2 went unfinished at 6-6 (4-2), with USC in position when play was halted.
Singles play opened with USC extending its lead in dominant fashion. Andrin Casanova wasted little time on court six, rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Hugh Winter to make it 2-0 Trojans. Pepperdine answered at the top spot, as Edward Winter defeated Branko Djuric 6-2, 7-5 on court one to cut the margin to 2-1.
The Trojans regained control thanks to Niels Hoffman at No. 5, who powered past Gustavo Ribeiro De Almeida 6-1, 7-6 (2) to push USC ahead 3-1. The Waves kept the pressure on with a win at No. 3, where No. 100 Lasse Poertner topped Jack McCarthy 7-6 (3), 6-2 to bring the match within 3-2.
With the contest hanging in the balance, Nathan Trouve delivered the clincher on court two. After taking the first set 6-3, dropping the second 3-6, Trouve responded with a composed 6-3 third-set effort to seal the team victory for USC at 4-2. The match at No. 4 between Max Exsted and No. 124 Aleksa Pisaric was left unfinished, with Exsted leading 4-6, 6-3, 3-2 when play was stopped.
