March 20, 2026 | Track & Field
LOS ANGELES -- USC Track and Field's Garrett Kaalund was named National Athlete of the Week by USA Track and Field for his performance at NCAA Indoor Championships. This is the third recognition this week for Kaalund's record-breaking 200m indoor race in a time of 19.95.
Kaalund broke the collegiate and American record in the 200m, the first ever sub-20 time run by a collegiate man indoors, nearly breaking the world record of 19.92, set by Frank Fredricks in 1996.Â
Kaalund and the Trojans start the outdoor season with the Ron and Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational on March 27 and 28. More information can be on usctrojans.com and @usc_track_field on Instagram and X.
