No. 4 USC Beach Volleyball Takes Down No. 10 Long Beach State, No. 6 Cal Poly

The Women of Troy won both duals today 3-2.
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. – No. 4 USC Beach Volleyball (23-4) kicked off the first day of the Best in the West tournament in Laguna Beach, grabbing wins over No. 10 Long Beach State and No. 6 Cal Poly. With these wins, USC now goes 23-4 on the season and 9-4 against opponents ranked in the top 10.

The 5s put the first point on the board for the Trojans as Kyra Zaengle and Calinda Kok secured a two-set victory against Madi Collins and Victoria Henkel, winning 21-16, 21-14. In the No. 3 spot, Bella Satterwhite and Kerry Keefe faced a tough challenge, falling to Kiara Edwards and Savannah Standage, 21-15, 21-19, allowing Long Beach State to toie the dual at 1-1.
The No. 2 flight saw Ashley Pater and Kennedy Coakley take down Tineke Hinton and Demi Wagdy in straight sets, 21-19, 21-11, to put USC up 2-1 in the dual. Alana Embry and Quincy Stephens followed that up in the fourth flight by clinching the dual with a decisive performance over Kealoha Phillips and Brooke Birch, winning 21-18, 21-16.
In the first flight, Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah of Long Beach State outlasted Zoey Henson and Sarah Wood in a three-set battle, 21-19, 26-28, 15-12, after the decision had already been made.

The second flight was the first to finish as Izzy Martinez and Logan Walter of Cal Poly secured the first point of the dual. They defeated USC's Zoey Henson and Sarah Wood in straight sets, 21-15, 21-13.
USC answered quickly, as No. 1 Ashley Pater and Kennedy Coakley overcame Ella Connor and Erin Inskeep of Cal Poly by scores of 23-21, 21-17. Pater and Coakley's performance tied the dual at 1-1.
From there, Bella Satterwhite and Kerry Keefe got the job done in the third spot, taking down Cal Poly's Quinn Perry and Ashleigh Adams in straight sets, 21-17, 23-21.
That's when Kyra Zaengle and Calinda Kok clinched the dual for the Trojans with a three-set battle against Peyton Dueck and Bailey Showalter of Cal Poly. After dropping the first set 21-14, Zaengle and Kok rallied back to take the next two sets, 21-13 and 15-11, securing the decisive point on the fifth court.
After the decision, the No. 4 flight featured a three-set battle where Cal Poly's Julia Westby and Elise Lenahan edged out Alana Embry and Quincy Stephens of the Trojans, 23-25, 21-16, 15-11.
