NORMAN, Okla. - No. 21 USC men's tennis saw its postseason run come to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling 4-0 to No. 9 Oklahoma in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
The Sooners (20-6) seized early control of the match by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The No. 5-ranked duo of Luis Alvarez and Bruno Nhavene set the tone with a 6-2 victory over USC's Nathan Trouve and Max Exsted on court one, before Oklahoma secured the point with a 6-3 win on court two. The third doubles match, featuring USC's Jack McCarthy and Connor Church, went unfinished with Oklahoma leading 5-3.Â
In singles play, Oklahoma quickly built momentum and never relinquished it. Johan Rodriguez extended the Sooners' lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Andrin Casanova on court four, and No. 74 Asahi Harazaki followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Connor Church on court six to make it 3-0.Â
The clincher came on court five, where Alejandro Melero outlasted Jack McCarthy in a tight second set to secure a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win and seal the sweep for Oklahoma.Â
Several other matches were left unfinished at the time of the decision, including Branko Djuric's contest on court one and Nathan Trouve's battle on court two, both of which remained competitive deep into second sets.Â
USC concludes its season with a 19-8 overall record after advancing to the NCAA Tournament's second round, while Oklahoma advances on to the Round of 16.
