The first Trojan off the board was recent alum Frankie Rios (pictured). The Boston Red Sox took the shortstop in the 17th round (521st overall). Rios led the Trojans with a .354 batting average in 2017 and posted a .965 fielding percentage -- among the Top 15 players in the nation. In his three years at Troy, the Lakewood, CA native started 123 games and batted a .310.
Rios is the sixth Trojan selected by the Red Sox and the first since 2002.
Later in the day, USC junior third baseman Adalberto Carrillo was drafted by the Washington Nationals. The Nats selected Carrillo as a catcher -- a position he hasn't played at USC -- in the 33rd round (1003rd overall).
Carrillo, who earned Pac-12 Honorable Mention alongside Rios this season, drove in a team-high 36 runs and batted .281 this year. The Santa Ana, CA product was also tied for the team lead in home runs (7) and stolen bases (9).
The third Trojan ever drafted by the Nationals, Carrillo has the option to return for his senior season at USC in 2018.
USC baseball has not only won the most titles (12) of any school in the nation, but has produced 111 major leaguers -- more than any other school can claim.
