Kerry Thompson is entering his first season as the assistant director of football sports performance for USC Football.
Thompson served as the associate athletic director of sports performance at Alabama State University, where he oversaw the sports performance programs for all 18 varsity sports. Under his direction, men's basketball, women's track and field (twice), women's golf (twice), men's tennis (twice), women's bowling, women's tennis and women's cross country teams were conference champions.
In 2023, Thompson spent a year as the assistant athletic director for sports performance at Clark Atlanta University, overseeing the university's 10 varsity sports.
During the 2022 season, he was the director of sports performance for Fan Controlled Football, a 7v7 league where play calling and decision making heavily rely on fan participation.
Before Clark Atlanta University, Thompson served two years as the head strength and conditioning coach at Grambling State University beginning in 2020. He oversaw all strength and conditioning for athletes and played a key role in the upgrading of the strength facility.
From November 2019 to October 2020, Thompson served on the South Carolina State Advisory Board for the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
In 2018, Thompson became the director of strength and conditioning at Allen University, becoming the first person to hold that role in the school’s history. That same year, he interned at the University of Alabama.
In 2014, was a strength and conditioning intern at the University of Alabama Birmingham until the program was canceled. When UAB reinstated their football program in 2016, he helped revive the program and was part of the team’s second bowl game appearance in program history in 2017.
In 2015, Thompson also served as a strength and conditioning intern for Samford University’s football program.
Thompson earned his bachelor's degree in health studies from the University of Alabama Birmingham in 2007. He earned a master’s degree in kinesiology with a focus on physical education from Fresno Pacific University in December of 2019. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in kinesiology and exercise science at Liberty University.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Thompson is certified as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
