THIS SEASON: Jake Sands is in his fourth season at USC.
2020-21: Sands had the clinching singles win in two dual matches, including a 4-3 win over rival UCLA...
Sands earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention in his junior season... Went 15-5 in singles play... Played primarily at the No. 6 position, where he went 9-4... Also played at No. 4 (1-0) and No. 5 (5-1)... In doubles, went 2-4, pairing with Ryder Jackson (0-2) and Lodewijk Weststrate (2-2).
2019-20: Sands held a 12-7 overall singles record with a four-match win streak when competition was cancelled in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic... Was 4-1 in dual-match play, going 2-1 at No. 5 and 2-0 at No. 6... Had the match-clinching victory in USC’s win at Oregon... In doubles, went 1-0 with Riley Smith and 0-1 with Ryder Jackson.
2018-19: Sands went 20-8 overall with a 14-5 mark in dual matches as a freshman... Was 7-4 at the No. 6 position, 6-1 at No. 5 and 1-0 at No. 3... Clinched a team-high five matches, including the Pac-12 Championship win over Cal... Ended the season with a six-match win streak, having played at the No. 5 slot through the Pac-12 and NCAA tournaments... In doubles, went 3-3 overall with a 1-1 mark in dual matches... Went 2-1 with Jack Jaede, with a 1-0 record at the No. 3 position... Also paired with Bradley Frye (1-1) and Jake DeVine (0-1)... In the fall, went 6-3 in singles.
HIGH SCHOOL: Sands helped lead his Palisades Charter High School team to victory in the 2017 All-American National Championships… Was twice named All-American as a junior and senior… Won the 2017 Ojai CIF Singles title as a senior… Won 2017 USTA National Team Championship with SoCal High School National Champions Palisades High in 2017.
PERSONAL: Jake Sands was born March 24, 2000 in Santa Monica, Calif… Parents are Katherine and Howard… Father played tennis at Harvard and was the school’s first All-American… Has one brother, RJ Sands… RJ plays tennis at the University of Pennsylvania… Lists Russell Westbrook as his biggest sports hero… Has always wanted to visit Fiji… Would like to play professional tennis and work in the business side of entertainment after graduation… Majoring in business administration.
