Women Of Troy Defeat Portland, 59-47

Portland, OR -- Led by junior guard Ayeshia Smith's 11 points and seven assists, USC earned its first victory of the season over Portland, 59-47. With the win, the Women of Troy break a six-game losing streak with which they ended the 1998-99 season.
The Trojans are now 1-0 overall, while Portland falls to 2-1 at the start of the season.
USC had three players finish in double figures, including Smith, guard Erica Mashia (10 pts) and forward Danielle Golay (10 pts). Golay played a team-high 34 minutes and added eight boards in the game. Junior forward Tashara Carter collected nine rebounds and added five assists. Troy led by as many as 16 points four times in the contest, never allowing the Pilots to come within seven points after the first five minutes of play.
Portland was led by center Sarah Green who posted 23 points and 14 rebounds in the Pilots' first loss of the season. Guard Trisha Felts was the only other Pilot to contribute double-digit points with 19 on the night.
The Trojans open their home schedule against Creighton on Friday, November 26. The game will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
