Men's Tennis Defeats Arizona State, 5-2

Los Angeles, CA -- The 11th-ranked USC men's tennis team defeated Arizona State, 5-2, today (Jan. 28) at Marks Tennis Stadium. The win was the first in Pac-10 play this season for the 3-0 Trojans.
USC senior Patrick Gottesleben (1-1) posted a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Arizona State's Alex Osterrieth at No. 1 singles. At the No. 2 spot, sophomore Andrew Park was defeated for the first time by Sun Devil Ed Carter in a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 match. For the Trojans, Ryan Moore, Nicholas Rainey and Daniel Langre each earned wins at the No. 3, 4, and 5 positions, while Parker Collins dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to ASU's Pim Van Mele at No. 6.
USC posted wins in two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point in the Pac-10 contest. Undefeated Rainey and Moore teamed for a 8-5 victory over Sun Devil's Carter and Osterrieth, and the USC duo of Gottesleben and Langre defeated Bowen and Van Mele in extra sets, 9-8, 7-4.
The Trojans will return to their home court tomorrow, Saturday, January 29, against Arizona. The match will begin at Noon at Marks Tennis Stadium.
