Tennis Teams Compete For Coed Collegiate Championship

Stanford, Calif. -- The USC men's and women's tennis teams paired to compete at the second-annual WingspanBank.com/WTT National Collegiate Tennis Championships over last week (Oct. 6-8) at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The three day event creates a unique scenario in which a coed national collegiate champion is crowned.
The USC team was made up of sophomore Tiffany Brymer, sophomore Jewel Peterson, junior Ryan Moore and junior Nick Rainey. The Trojans were selected as one of 16 men's and women's NCAA programs to participate in the event. Each team match consists of five sets, with one set each of men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. One point is awarded for each game won.
The USC team suffered its only loss in the first round with a 28-21 defeat at the hands of Clemson. The Trojans went on to defeat Minnesota, 24-23, Louisiana State, 23-20, and South Carolina, 24-21. A final 3-1 record earned USC a seventh-place finish.
