USC Women's Tennis History & Archive
Overview
The USC women’s tennis program has a longstanding history of excellence, including seven National Team championships and 100 All-Americans. Those national crowns all came under Dave Borelli, who coached USC from 1974 to 1988. In duals, Borelli’s record was 300-43 (.875).
Trojans have won 5 national singles titles, along with 2 doubles championships (including Sabrina Santamaria and Kaitlyn Christian in 2013). Some of USC’s stars include Barbara Hallquist, Diane Desfor, Lea Antonopolis, Leslie Allen, Sheila McInerney, Stacy Margolin, Trey Lewis, the Fernandez sisters, Kelly Henry, Beth Herr, Caroline Kuhlman, Trisha Laux, Jewel Peterson, Lindsey Nelson, Kaitlyn Christian, Sabrina Santamaria, Gugu Olmos, Maria Sanchez, Eryn Cayetano and Maddy Sieg.
Richard Gallien, a successful player and coach at Pepperdine, was head coach from 1996 to 2017. He led USC to the NCAA semifinals in 2006 and 2012. Alison Swain, who led Williams to 8 NCAA titles, took over at the helm in 2018. In 2023, Swain led USC to a historic finish at the Pac-12 Championship tournament, reaching the final for the first time in program history. USC has won 11 conference titles and made 41 NCAA Tournament appearances since the program’s inception.
