Trojans Win Tiebreaker For Match Victory

Los Angeles, Calif. -- The No. 10 USC women's tennis team (15-6, 4-2 Pac-10) claimed the tiebreaker in the final doubles match for a 5-4 victory over Washington (11-9, 3-5 Pac-10) today at Marks Tennis Stadium.
After dropping the No. 1 singles match to Washington's No.1-ranked Kristina Kraszewski, the Women of Troy came back to earn victories at the No. 2, 3, 5 and 6 positions. Among the four, freshman Tiffany Brymer added a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win over Peggy Wu at No. 6, breaking a personal three-match losing streak.
USC held a 4-2 lead heading into doubles play, but quickly saw the score come to a four apiece when the Huskies earned wins in the first two completed matches. Ilona Kordonskaya and Zuzana Stunova defeated Jacqui Boyd and Anita Loyola 8-4 at No. 2, while Collen Gray and Wu beat Veronika Safarova and Caroline Christian 8-3 at No. 3.
The match was decided at center court as Warkentin and Brymer pushed No. 43 Kraszewski and Darija Klaic to a tiebreaker, then prevailed with a 9-8, 8-6 final score.
The Women of Troy return to action on Friday, April 21, at Stanford, then travel to Cal on Saturday, April 22.
