SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Ronald Flores pitched eight strong innings while Mark Prior and Anthony Lunetta both homered Tuesday as the USC Trojans defeated in the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, 9-3, at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. Flores (3-1) allowed three runs (all unearned) on five hits and struck out eight batters while only allowing one walk. At one point, Flores retired 12 straight batters.
The Trojans (28-17) scored the first six runs of the game. Justin Gemoll's sacrifice fly and Beau Craig's RBI single gave the Trojans a two-run lead in the first. A two-run single by Josh Persell and a balk by reliever Bing Cain gave the Trojans three runs in the second. Prior led off the third inning with a solo shot to left, his fourth of the season.
An error by Gemoll in the fourth put two runners on for the Gauchos (21-19). With two outs, R.J. Smith hit a three-run homer to left for UCSB's only runs. Lunetta hit a solo shot, his seventh of the season, in the seventh inning for the Trojans.
