Baseball Evens Series With No. 3 Arizona State, 12-2

LOS ANGELES -- Rob Garibaldi capped a seven-run second inning with a three-run home run to right Saturday as the USC Trojans evened their Pac-10 Conference series against the No. 3 Arizona State Sun Devils with a 12-2 win at Dedeaux Field. Garibaldi finished 2-for-4 with four RBI.
The Trojans (29-18, 9-8) began the scoring on a two-out single by catcher Beau Craig in the first inning. Seth Davidson started the scoring in the second with a two-run double down the left field line. Davidson scored on a balk by reliever Chad Pennington. Justin Gemoll doubled to left, scoring Josh Persell from second before the Garibaldi homer.
Mark Prior went seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits with nine strikeouts to improve to 6-6 on the season. It was the first victory for Prior since March 3. Bryce Kartler (0-1) picked up the loss for the Sun Devils (37-11, 12-5), after allowing four runs in 1 and 1/3 innings of work. Arizona State scored their runs with an RBI single by Brooks Conrad in the sixth and an RBI single by Mel Stocker in the seventh.
Craig went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. USC held Arizona State's Casey Myers and Mitch Jones to a combined 1-for-10 performance with Myers, who was batting .432 prior to today's game, striking out four times.
The series finale will be tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Dedeaux Field.
