
Women Of Troy Suffer 65-53 Setback At UCLA

Los Angeles, CA - The USC women's basketball (5-8, 0-3 Pac-10) team dropped a 65-53 decision against UCLA (2-12, 1-2 Pac-10) this afternoon in a Pac-10 game played in Pauley Pavilion before a crowd of 4,010. The Bruin's Michelle Greco led with 23 points, while Aisha Hollans and Ebony Hoffman paced the Women of Troy with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Greco scored 15 of her game-high point total in the second half which helped UCLA rally from a 30-25 halftime deficit. USC upped its advantage to as many as nine at 42-33 with 14:59 remaining in the game before the Bruins staged their comeback. UCLA outscored the Women of Troy 16-1 over the next five minutes to take a 49-43 lead with 9:40 to play.
USC, now 5-8, 0-3 on the year, managed to tie the game at 49 with 6:26 to play when Hoffman converted a pair of free throws. The 6-foot-2 forward hit a shot in the lane for a 51-50 Trojan margin at the 5:45 mark, but it was the last lead of the contest for the Trojans.
UCLA forward Kristee Porter hit a lay-in on an assist from Greco as the Bruins regained the lead at 52-51. Greco then hit five out of six free throws to close out USC, who was held scoreless for the final 3:31 of the game.
Hollans and Hoffman also added seven and six rebounds on the night, while junior forward Carmen Krause tied a career high with nine boards.
USC will host the Arizona schools next week in Los Angeles, starting with Arizona on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. at the L.A. Sports Arena.
