Senior co-captain Michala Kwasny, sophomore Kaitlin Sandeno and freshmen Margie Pedder each won a pair of races while sophomore diver Blythe Hartley also won twice as USC's No. 7 women's swimming and diving team defeated No. 9 Arizona, 142-101, on Friday (Nov. 22) at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium.
USC improved to 1-1 with the win.
Kwasny won the 200y IM in an NCAA 'A' cut of 2:00.65 and also finished first in the 100y free (51.40). Sandeno, meanwhile, touched first in the 200y fly in an NCAA 'A' cut of 1:48.85 and won the 200y free in 1:48.85 ('B' cut). Sandeno also was second in the 1000y free (9:56.15) and the 500y free (4:49.77).
Pedder, in her first home meet at Troy, won the 1000y free (9:51.94) and the 500y free (4:49.67), the latter an NCAA 'B' cut.
Hartley remained unbeaten in the young season by sweeping the springboard events. She won the 1-meter with 298.95 and the 3-meter with 331.70.
Freshman Kammy Miller continued her dominance in the breaststroke, winning the 200y in 2:15.47, a 'B' cut, but not quite as fast as she swam at Texas.
USC's 400y medley relay of Sandeno, Miller, Kwasny and freshman Joy Galloway won in an NCAA 'B' cut time of 3:44.47.
USC will compete against Arizona State at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 23) at McDonald's Swim Stadium.
