USC COACH MICK HALEY QUOTES:
"San Diego is a difficult team to play against. What they do, they do well. They showed us a lot of things we haven't seen. So I was pleased to win in three games. In game one, we had to keep making adjustments, but in the second and third games, we made some nice adjustments.
"I thought San Diego was a Top 20 team. They're a good team. For us, being constantly pushed is a good thing. It helps us maintain our intensity. But if the other team gets hot, you can lose in the first round. San Diego came in thinking if they played well, they'd give us a game. It's going to help us in the long run, playing better competition."
USC MIDDLE BLOCKER KATIE OLSOVSKY QUOTES:
"In the tournament, you only have one chance. You have to go out like it's your last game. We learned from last year, losing to Arizona. So you have so much more energy, because you only have one shot. This is what it's all about now."
QUOTES FROM USD COACH JENNIFER PETRIE:
"It was an extremely well-played match by both teams. At times, we could've given USC a better challenge. We were very anxious to play them, to play the first seed. But on the flip side, we wished we were someplace else.
"I'm very proud of the season we had. We deserved a better chance to prove ourselves. But on the other side, we want to play and beat the No. 1 team.
"Last year, we played the No. 1 seed in the second round. It's very difficult when you're trying to improve your program, to be paired with the first seed in the first or second round.
"We have a very strong outside attack and USC was aware of that. They're so big. It's hard to find a weakness in their defense. We tried to spread the ball wider. It was hard to penetrate their middle. They have very few weaknesses.
"USC's strength is they are a very consistent team. They capitalized on us making errors."
USD OUTSIDE HITTER KRISTEN HURST:
"I felt the seeding was unfair to USC because they had to play the No. 25 team."
USD OUTSIDE HITTER NOEL FROHMAN:
"Coming in, after watching video, we thought we could knock off the first seed."
