USC's Leimbach Claims Pac-10 Singles Title

Ojai, Calif. - USC's Nicole Leimbach captured the Women of Troy's first Pac-10 singles title Sunday, April 24, in Ojai, Calif. with a 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 victory over last year's runner-up- Alice Barnes of Stanford.
Leimbach, ranked ninth nationally, defeated her third Stanford opponent in as many days to capture USC's first women's singles title. Leimbach had advanced to the finals with a victory over Theresa Logar of Stanford, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, on Saturday and moved into the semifinals after the Cardinal's Whitney Deason withdrew due to injury on Friday.
Carine Vermeulen also claimed a title of her own winning the women's invitational, 7-5, 6-3 over Washington State's Amy Toth.
The Trojans' men's and women's tennis teams will next take to the courts for the NCAA First and Second Rounds May 13-15 at campus sites yet to be determined. The men's championship finals will be in College Station, Texas, while the women's championship finals will be held in Athens, Ga.
