
Freshman Lindsey Nelson Wins NCAA Singles First Round Match

No. 16-ranked USC freshman Lindsey Nelson defeated No. 59 Romy Farah of Clemson in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Women's Division I Tennis Singles Championships at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Monday (May 23), while a pair of her Women of Troy teammates dropped their first round matches.
Nelson defeated Farah, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, and now will face No. 64 Sarah Foster of Kentucky in a second round match on Tuesday (May 24). Foster was a 6-1, 6-3 first round winner over No. 51 Daria Panova of Oregon.
Nelson, an All-Pac-10 first team selection in 2005, is 21-1 in dual match singles play in 2005 (she won her first 17 duals) and 34-7 overall this season.
Freshman Nicole Leimbach of USC, ranked No. 9, was upset by No. 66 Helga Vieira of Texas A&M, 7-5, 6-2, while No. 53 sophomore Anca Anastasiu of USC was a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 loser to No. 14 Story Tweedie-Yates of TCU.
USC has no entrants in the NCAA Doubles Championships, which begin on May 24.
