USC's incoming freshman, Alison Ramos, picked up some extra hardware this week, emerging as the CIF Southern Section singles champion with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the title match. The Troy High School senior recently signed a letter of intent to join the Women of Troy, bringing her to the courts of USC for the 2008-09 season.
"I'm very happy for her and extremely happy for us," USC head coach Richard Gallien said of Ramos' achievement. "That's a very tough tournament to win. The players who have won that in the past have gone on to great things."
Coming off an unbeaten senior singles season, Ramos will join a Trojan team that has made nine consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament entering the coming 2008 spring season.
