ATHENS, GA. - With her third consecutive straight-set win, USC junior Lindsey Nelson has punched her ticket to the NCAA Singles Semifinals, having dispatched sixth-seeded Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech 6-3, 6-3 in Saturday's quarterfinals at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. With the win, Nelson advances to a semifinal clash with LSU's No. 2 seed Megan Falcon, owner of a 6-4, 6-4 quarterfinal win over Natalie Frazier of Georgia.
In the other semifinal, top seed Audra Cohen of Miami will face either Baylor's Zuzana Zemenova or UCLA's Tracy Lin - both players who climbed through the tournament as unseeded players.
Nelson was an NCAA Singles finalist last season, coming into the 2006 action ranked #18 in the nation and earning an at-large selection into the tournament on her way to facing Cal's Susie Babos in the title match. This year, Nelson holds a #5 ranking and is the tournament's fourth-seeded player. Her overall singles record is now 30-7, as she has followed up a three-set victory over Chattanooga's #55 Anastasia Zhukova in the first round with three consecutive two-set decisions over Miami's #48 Audrey Banada and Florida's #39 Megan Alexander before toppling #6 and sixth seeded Miller 6-3, 6-3 in today's NCAA Quarterfinals.
