Following a third-place finish at the 2007 NCAA Championships, the USC women's water polo team has four players who have earned All-America honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. The Women of Troy are led on the list by two first-time First Team selections: senior Erika Figge and sophomore Kami Craig. Starring on the Second Team are seniors Patty Cardenas and Brittany Hayes. All four are also members of the U.S. National Team, which begins a busy summer of competition this weekend in the FINA World League, which opens play Friday night in Los Alamitos, Calif.
For Figge and Craig, the All-America First Team accolades are the first of their Trojan careers. A utility player, Figge finished the year as the team's top scorer with 50 goals, and also has been honored as one of three finalists for the esteemed Peter J. Cutino Award and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament First Team. Craig was USC's powerhouse at two meters, generating 38 goals to stand as the team's No. 3 scorer in 2007. The pair also earned All-MPSF First Team recognition this season as well.
Hayes' placement on the All-America Second Team is the third of her solid career at Troy, having been a first-team pick as a sophomore. The senior utility player finished as USC's second leading scorer in 2007, just behind Figge with 44 goals to rank as the Trojans' No. 5 all-time scorer with 209 career goals. Fellow senior and U.S. National Team teammate Cardenas has jumped from All-America recognition in the driver's first year at USC as a junior to Second Team status following a 32-goal effort as a senior. Cardenas and Hayes also earned All-MPSF honors as well, with Hayes named to the conference's second team and Cardenas receiving honorable mention.
