USC junior J.W. Krumpholz scored four goals on the final day of competition at the SoCal Tournament in helping USC capture its sixth consecutive SoCal title. For his efforts over the weekend, Krumpholz was named MPSF Mikasa Co-Player of the Week. It is the junior two-meter man's first weekly honor from the MPSF.
In the tournament semifinal game vs. Cal - the first meeting between the two teams since last year's NCAA championship game - Krumpholz drew three ejections and scored three goals in USC's 12-7 win. Just hours later in the championship game against Stanford, Krumpholz drew four ejections for the Trojans and gave USC its first lead of the game with a goal in the third period of the eventual 8-7 overtime win for USC. Krumpholz leads USC in scoring this season with 27 goals, having scored in 14 of undefeated USC's 17 games. He had six goals at this year's SoCal Tournament.
Krumpholz is the third Trojan to earn MPSF Player of the Week honors this season. Krumpholz and the top-ranked Trojans continue their 2008 campaign this weekend with a trip to Long Beach State, facing the 49ers at 12 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 18).
