LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - The No. 4 USC women's water polo team put together another balanced game, allowing only a single goal each period on the way to a 12-4 MPSF win over No. 14 Cal State Northridge on Saturday afternoon at McDonald's Swim Stadium. The victory runs the Trojans' home win streak up to 42 straight, as USC improves to 10-4 overall this season and 3-0 in MPSF play.
The Women of Troy spread out their scoring among eight different players, led by two goals apiece from Kally Lucas, Alexandra Kiss, Forel Davies and Jordan Anae, and backed up by nine saves from Tumua Anae and two from Whitney Morgan in another powerful defensive effort by the Trojans. The Trojans opened things with scores from Davies and Kiss in the first period before CSUN got on the board with a score at 1:40. USC made it 3-1 with a strike from Julie Spataru early in the second, and although the Matadors closed to within one at 2:05, USC answered with two more in the final two minutes before halftime on goals from Jordan Anae and Davies' second of the day.
Leading 5-2 at halftime, USC padded things to 7-2 with goals from Michelle Stein and Alison Riddle. CSUN's lone goal of that frame came at 2:01, and USC responded with a three-goal tear in the remaining two minutes, as Kally Lucas pumped in back-to-back goals and Sarah Van Norman drilled one in the final minute for a 10-3 USC lead entering the final period. The Matadors ended USC's scoring run with a goal at 4:54, but again USC pieced together an answer as Kiss and Jordan Anae pumped in their second of the day to close things down on a 12-4 win for the Women of Troy.
USC's next competition comes next week in a trip to Northern California. USC first faces Cal in a 12 p.m. game on Saturday (March 8) and then visits Pacific for another 12 p.m. match on Sunday (March 9).
