USC sophomore goalie Joel Dennerley becomes the fourth Trojan this season to earn honors as MPSF Player of the Week after an impressive stand in the cage over the weekend. It's the first honor for Dennerley this season and third MPSF weekly pick of his career.
Dennerley recorded a new season-high with 12 saves in USC's 9-4 MPSF win over No. 7 Long Beach State on Saturday. Dennerley stopped three of five LBSU 6-on-5 opportunities in the win, playing the full four periods and allowing just four goals including one 5-meter penalty shot.
The MPSF win over 49ers extended USC's home winning streak out to 36 straight and pushed the Trojans to a 17-1 overall record and 4-0 mark in MPSF play. Dennerley has appeared in all 18 USC games this season, and average 6.4 saves and just 4.1 goals-against per game.
Dennerley and the top-ranked Trojans get back to action on Saturday (Oct. 24) with a nonconference game against LMU at 2:30 p.m. at McDonald's Swim Stadium.
