The USC men's water polo team has picked up the No. 1 seed into the NCAA Championships once again as the Trojans take aim at back-to-back national championships. The field for the 2009 NCAA Championships was set tonight for the coming four-team tournament hosted by Princeton from Dec. 5-6.
The top-seeded Trojans captured the at-large bid into the NCAA tournament thanks to a commanding 24-2 overall record in which USC raged undefeated through the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regular season before taking third place in this week's MPSF Championships.
UCLA (22-6) takes the No. 2 seed as the MPSF tournament champion, and Loyola Marymount (19-7) is the No. 3 seed as the Western Water Polo Association champion. Host Princeton (15-11) is the No. 4 seed holding court as the Collegiate Water Polo Association champs.
USC enters this year's NCAA Championships as the defending champion after the Trojans won their fourth national championship with a 7-5 victory over Stanford in the 2008 tournament hosted by the Cardinal.
