
No. 5 USC Bounces Back With Sweep At Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. - Alex Jupiter had 19 kills and hit .516 (19-3-31) Saturday as the No. 5 USC Women of Troy swept the Washington State Cougars, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-19), in a Pac-10 Conference match. USC bounced back after suffering its first loss of the season last night in five sets at No. 10 Washington.
Jupiter added three aces and tied a season high with six blocks (two solo) for 26.0 points in the match for USC (13-1, 2-1). Alexis Olgard and Katie Fuller tallied seven kills each while freshman libero Natalie Hagglund had 16 digs.
Meagan Ganzer had 14 kills for the Cougars (6-8, 0-4) with USC recording an 8-1 margin in service aces on the evening.
Down 8-7 in the first set, the Trojans scored eight straight points on setter Kendall Bateman's serve for the 15-8 lead. Jupiter recorded a kill and started another streak of five straight points on her serve as the Women of Troy cruised to the set victory. An 8-2 run to open the second set aided the Trojans' cause with Fuller closing it out with a kill. With the score tied at 8-8 in the third, Jupiter went back-to-back kills as USC was able to hold off Washington State for the remainder of the set to secure the win.
USC returns home to face top-ranked Stanford on Friday (Oct. 8) and California on Saturday (Oct. 9) with a 7 p.m. start for both matches. A live video webcast for both matches will be available on usctrojans.com.
