
No. 8 USC Sweeps Washington State At Home

LOS ANGELES - Junior All-American Alex Jupiter (Paris, France/Redondo Union HS) had 12 kills Friday as the No. 8 USC Women of Troy swept the Washington State Cougars, 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-15), in Pac-10 Conference action.
Katie Fuller had eight kills, hitting .368 (8-1-19) for the Women of Troy with the efficient production coming from junior middle blocker Lauren Williams and freshman middle blocker Alexis Olgard. Olgard hit .700 (7-1-10) while Williams hit .600 (7-1-10) as USC (18-3, 7-3) finished the match with a .373 hitting percentage.
Brittany Tillman had a team-high six kills for Washington State (6-14, 0-10) with the Cougars hitting .023 in the match.
Katie Fuller got things started in the first set as the Trojans opened with a 9-2 run. Falyn Fonoimoana knocked down a kill and added a service ace for the 12-5 score. USC would finish with an 11-5 run with Jupiter and Williams stuffing a WSU attack in the middle for the set-ender.
The second set opened in similar fashion as the Women of Troy rattled off seven straight points. Geena Urango had back-to-back aces as USC led, 16-7. Sophomore Natasa Siljkovic recorded her first kill of the season to spark a 5-2 run as USC took the 2-0 lead in the match. The Cougars reversed the score to open the third set, leading 6-3. Olgard rallied the team back with a kill to tie it at 7-7. Conley Kipp put the Cougars back in the lead, but the Trojans stole the lead again with an 8-1 flurry with Jupiter adding two more kills late to complete the sweep.
USC hosts No. 7 Washington tomorrow at 3 p.m. in a match that will be broadcast by FOX Sports Net. All fans will receive free admission for tomorrow's match. The match will have a live audio broadcast and Gametracker live stats on usctrojans.com.
Notes: The USC program held another All-Time Great Night as the team honored Terry Place (1976-77) with a banner ceremony at the Galen Center...Place, a native of Redondo Beach, Calif., was a two-time All-American who played on two national championship squads at USC and a two-time Olympian (1980 and 1984)...USC has recorded 12 three-set sweeps this season...Alex Jupiter is three points away from tying Asia Kaczor (2006-07) for sixth place on USC's all-time list for points as Jupiter currently has 1,386.0 points for her career...Lauren Williams entered the match ranked second in the nation for hitting percentage and is now hitting .441 on the season...sophomore middle blocker Natasa Siljkovic made her collegiate debut in tonight's match, recording one kill on two attempts.
